About our Intern Program:
Our interns are a very valuable part of the ministry teams here at Saddleback Church. We receive applications from all over the United States and actually all over the world. Potential interns are taken through a lengthy, in depth interview process. We only accept interns that stand apart from the rest.
Our program is designed to equip ministry leaders who feel a specific calling to full-time ministry in the church. They have finished their undergraduate degree and have some ministry experience. In this program they are both a learner and a contributor. They give two years of their life to serve here at Saddleback Church while learning under the leadership of gifted ministry leaders and in a Purpose Driven Church model. While they are here they must raise their own financial support from family and friends back home. To help welcome them to our church family we provide them with a wonderful host home like yours which also helps them by deferring the cost of room and board.
What would be asked of you, your family and your home?
1. We ask that host home families have completed our church membership - CLASS 101 and are members of our church family.
2. We ask that our host homes provide a room with a bed and space in the closet.:
This is the minimum we ask you to provide. We ask that their room is their own space (so, not a shared room, or converted into another room during the day), this is to ensure that they have a space where they can truly relax.
3. The intern would also need access to a bathroom:
A personal bathroom is preferred, but a shared bathroom with the same sex is just fine. We ask that they be given a drawer and/or a cupboard for their own toiletries.
4. We ask that a host home give access to groceries:
Interns have varied schedules, so the host home is not asked to anything different from their normal meal schedule/routine. We ask that you provide enough groceries so that the intern can help him/herself to fix their own meals to fit with their schedule. Of course, if you love to cook, the intern certainly wouldn’t mind that either. J
5. We ask that an intern have access to laundry machines and supplies:
Like groceries, the intern would need to have access to laundry supplies as well. The host home is NOT expected to do an intern’s laundry. The intern is an adult and is responsible for their own laundry.
6. Lastly we ask that an intern have access to all the utilities:
Please note that our interns will NOT use your telephone for any long distance phones calls.
We place interns in a host home for minimum of 6 months, any amount of time longer than that would be up to you and the intern.
What’s Next?
If this sounds like a ministry you would be interested in serving in, please email epic@saddleback.net for some next steps.

Here’s a piece of the story from Josh, one of the EPIC - PEACE Trip Volunteers
I had to do a speech today in one of my classes and right after that I had a test in another class that I seriously needed to do well on. Even with praying, I was still very stressed out worrying. I wasn't exactly as prepared as I should have been for either one which added to the stress. On the way to school, all i could think about was this stupid speech and test. But all of a sudden, a face popped into my head. It was Fabio's (I'm sure that's not spelled right) face. I found myself imagining the ear to ear smile that might be on his face when he sees me back at the ranch, and the surprised look on his face when I call him by name and let him know that I remember him. In that moment, all of the stress that i had been feeling all day went away, I felt at peace. And if that's not enough of a sign, here's the icing on the cake: I was listening to my Ipod and only one song on that particular playlist is a worship song. In that very same moment that the feeling of peace came over me when that one worship song started to play. It was "Shout to the Lord". The whole experience overwhelmed me so much that tears filled my eyes. I already had a desire in my heart to go back down to the ranch, but through this sign, God has intensified that desire. I am going to organize a trip to go back down there soon. Even if it's just me and a couple of other guys.
